XM Review Kenya 2026

TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited holds CMA Licence Number 233 as a non-dealing online forex broker. XM is a large global broker on the MetaTrader platforms, with a USD 5 minimum on its account cards (KSh 2,100 by M-Pesa), and it serves Kenyans through its own CMA-licensed Kenyan company rather than through a company licensed outside Kenya.

XM platform overview

XM serves Kenyan clients through TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited, which the CMA licenses as a non-dealing online foreign exchange broker under Licence 233. We opened a real account as a Kenyan resident on 23 October 2026, funded it by M-Pesa, traded EUR/USD on the web terminal and in the app on 26 October, and withdrew everything back to M-Pesa, capturing both ends of every money movement.

Our expert verdict

XM did what it says. TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited is on the CMA register under Licence 233, and the Client Agreement we accepted is with that company, under Kenyan law. Sumsub cleared our documents within a minute of upload, a KSh 2,300 M-Pesa deposit was credited as USD 17.57 in the minute we paid with no XM fee, and our USD 17.19 withdrawal arrived in M-Pesa as KSh 2,214 about ten minutes after we asked, also free.

Three things shape the picture. The Standard account is not a tight-spread account: XM publishes a 2.0 pip average on EUR/USD, and we saw 1.9 to 2.2. The deposit bonus is credit, not cash: ours matched the deposit, could not be withdrawn, and disappeared when we withdrew. And the account is in US dollars, which cost us about 1.6 percent over the M-Pesa round trip.

What to watch out for

  • Which company holds your account. TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited, CMA Licence 233, is the company in the Client Agreement we accepted, on XM's own Kenyan regulation page and in its website footer. So the CMA licence covers the company that holds the account. Source: Client Agreement, XM regulation page, website footer.
  • Your M-Pesa money moves through payment companies. The deposit prompt named ZAMUPAY LIMITED and the receipt PESASWAP EAST AFRICA LIMITED, and the withdrawal arrived from ZAMUPAY LIMITED, not from TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited. XM's own emails confirmed the deposit in the same minute and the withdrawal a minute before the M-Pesa message.
  • The Standard account spread is about 2 pips on EUR/USD. XM publishes an average of 2.0 pips, and we saw 1.9 to 2.2. Ultra Low accounts quote from 0.8 pips and are excluded from the deposit bonus. Source: xm.ke spreads page and our tickets, 26 Oct 2026.
  • The deposit bonus is credit, not cash. Our deposit received a matching USD 17.57 credit, which cannot be withdrawn and was removed in full when we withdrew everything. Source: New Group Bonus terms, withdrawal declaration, account balance.
  • Expect a US dollar account. KSh 2,300 in became USD 17.57, and USD 17.19 out became KSh 2,214, about 1.6 percent lost across the two conversions, with no stated conversion fee.
  • A face check to withdraw. XM ran a Sumsub liveness check before releasing our withdrawal. It is a security positive, but expect the step.
  • Dormant fee of USD 10 a month. After 90 days with no trading, deposits, withdrawals or transfers in all your accounts, XM charges USD 10 a month, or the whole free balance if it is less. Source: Client Agreement, clause 62.
  • Leverage on our account changed. Our account showed 400:1 when we started trading on 26 October 2026 and 100:1 half an hour later. We did not capture a change of setting; clause 32.2 of the Client Agreement lets XM change leverage at any time without notice.
  • Restricted citizenships. XM states it does not serve citizens of the United States, Canada, Israel or Iran. Source: website footer.

How we tested XM

We opened a real account on XM's Kenyan site as a Kenyan resident on 23 October 2026: registration at 23:11, investor details and a knowledge question, identity verification through Sumsub, and a tax self-certification. XM created an MT5 Standard account at sign-up; we added a second MT5 Standard account in US dollars and funded it by M-Pesa just after midnight, capturing XM's confirmation, the payment page, the M-Pesa prompt and receipt, and XM's email.

On 26 October we traded EUR/USD twice with 0.01 lots, once on the XM web terminal and once in the XM app. Both positions closed on their stop losses within seconds, each for minus USD 0.19, which is 1.9 pips, the spread at the time. We then withdrew the full USD 17.19 to M-Pesa, passing a Sumsub face check on the way, and captured XM's email and the M-Pesa receipt. We also opened a demo account in the app and looked through its tools and education.

We read TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited's Client Agreement (Terms and Conditions of Business), its Complaint Handling Procedures and the New Group Bonus terms, confirmed Licence 233 on the CMA licensee register, and checked the CMA's latest public caution. We tested one Standard account, so our spread, rate and timing figures are single observations, not averages. We did not test MetaTrader 4 or 5 themselves, an Ultra Low or Micro account, or support by phone or email.

We could not verify any of these reviews, and those on Google Play are worldwide, so they may concern other XM group companies.

TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited holds CMA Licence Number 233 as a non-dealing online foreign exchange broker. We confirmed it on the CMA licensee register, where a search for XM returns TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited at licence 233, one of 14 non-dealing online foreign exchange brokers. XM's Kenyan site says the same on its regulations page, and its legal footer gives the company's registration number, PVT-BEUX5EZV, and says XM does not serve citizens of the United States, Canada, Israel or Iran. Neither XM nor TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited appears in the CMA's public caution of 11 September 2026. The register entry, the full list and the caution are shown below.

Non-dealing means the Kenyan company is licensed to act "as a link between the foreign exchange market and a client" for a commission or a mark-up on the spread, and "does not engage in market making activities" (2017 Regulations, reg. 2).

The Client Agreement is with TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited and is governed by the Laws of Kenya, with the courts of Kenya having jurisdiction (clause 89.1). Client money is held with an approved bank, segregated from the company's own funds, and may be pooled with other clients' money in one account (clause 61.1); the agreement does not say the bank is in Kenya. XM states a negative balance protection policy, so losses on CFDs are limited to the funds in the account (clauses 42.11 and 61.7), as the CMA has required of licensed brokers since its Circular No. 03/2023; XM can withhold it where it finds arbitrage or abuse. Segregation keeps your money apart from the company's, but it is not compensation, and the CMA's Investor Compensation Fund does not cover online forex brokers: section 18 of the Capital Markets Act sets it up for the failure of a licensed stockbroker or dealer. We found no financial statements for TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited.

On security, XM sends email one-time passwords by default, asks for a 6-digit authenticator code when you log in to the app, and ran a Sumsub face check before releasing our withdrawal.

Complaints go first to complaints@tpxmglobal.com. XM's Complaint Handling Procedures promise a written acknowledgement within three business days, a full account of the investigation within fifteen, and a final response within eight weeks.

Account opening

4.5
Opening / 5

Opening was fully online and took under half an hour. The registration form had Kenya as the country of residence and asked for an email address and a password; XM then verified the email by a six-digit code and the phone number by code before going further. Its investor details asked how much we planned to deposit each year, the purpose of the account, employment status, annual income, source of funds and net worth, followed by a question on knowledge and experience: had we had any forex education, or traded at least 15 times in derivatives such as forex or CFDs?

Identity verification is run by Sumsub: a Kenyan ID card, passport, residence permit or driving licence, and a liveness check. Until it clears, XM does not permit trading access or withdrawals. Ours cleared fast: we uploaded the documents at 23:38 on 23 October, the account showed as verified within a minute, and XM's "Profile Verification Completed" email arrived at 23:38. The tax self-certification asks whether you are a US citizen for tax purposes, your country of tax residence and whether you have a tax identification number.

XM's Kenyan account cards list four accounts, all with a USD 5 minimum deposit, leverage up to 400:1, a 20 percent stop-out and no commission. Standard and Micro advertise spreads from 1.6 pips and are eligible for the deposit bonus; Ultra Low Standard and Ultra Low Micro advertise spreads from 0.8 pips, are swap-free and are not bonus-eligible. XM created an MT5 Standard account at sign-up, and we added a second Standard account to fund, choosing 400:1 and US dollars.

XM listed credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and M-Pesa for our Kenyan account; local bank transfer was listed but under maintenance on 23 October 2026. M-Pesa deposits carry no XM fee and run from KSh 2,100 to KSh 250,000, so by M-Pesa the practical minimum is about USD 16, not the USD 5 on the account cards.

We deposited KSh 2,300 by M-Pesa. XM's platform quoted it as USD 17.57 and asked us to confirm, then handed over to a payment page offering Airtel Mobile Money Kenya or M-Pesa. The M-Pesa prompt asked us to pay ZAMUPAY LIMITED, and the receipt at 12:07 AM on 24 October shows KSh 2,300 sent to PESASWAP EAST AFRICA LIMITED, with a Safaricom transaction cost of KSh 20. XM's "Successful Deposit has been Processed" email arrived at 00:07, the same minute. XM then added a USD 17.57 bonus credit, matching the deposit.

On 26 October we withdrew the whole USD 17.19 left after trading. Withdrawal methods were M-Pesa and a payout to a bank card, with international wire under maintenance; the M-Pesa minimum is USD 15, at 1 USD = 128.7715 KES that day. Before submitting, XM asks you to declare that any withdrawal removes a proportional share of your bonus, and a notice explains that requests which would drop the margin level below 150 percent (400 percent at weekends) are not accepted while positions are open. XM then ran a Sumsub face check. We asked at about 10:12; XM's "Your Withdrawal Was Successfully Processed" email came at 10:21, and the M-Pesa message confirmed KSh 2,214.00 received from ZAMUPAY LIMITED at 10:22, about ten minutes in all, with no fee. The account and its bonus credit both went to zero.

Because the account is in US dollars, both legs were converted. KSh 2,300 in became USD 17.57, about 130.90 KES per USD, and USD 17.19 out became KSh 2,214 at 128.7715, so about 1.6 percent was lost across the two conversions, even though XM applies no separate conversion fee.

XM's four account types charge no commission, so the cost of a trade is the spread. On the Standard account we used, XM's "Pick Your Pairs" page gave EUR/USD an average of 2.0 pips and a low of 1.6 on 26 October 2026. We saw 1.9 to 2.2 pips on the web terminal and in the app that morning, and both our trades cost exactly the spread at the time: each 0.01 lot position closed on its stop loss within seconds for minus USD 0.19, which is 1.9 pips. Other majors on the same page averaged 2.4 to 2.6 pips. Ultra Low accounts quote EUR/USD from 0.8 pips and are excluded from the deposit bonus.

Holding EUR/USD overnight costs a swap: the app showed minus 7.48 points on a long and plus 1.23 on a short on 26 October. Our trades closed the same day and paid none. Ultra Low accounts are swap-free.

M-Pesa deposits and withdrawals carry no XM fee; Safaricom charged its own KSh 20 on our deposit. The account is in US dollars, and our M-Pesa round trip lost about 1.6 percent in conversion: about 130.90 KES per USD in, 128.7715 out, against the Central Bank of Kenya's 129.89 on 23 October.

An idle account costs money. If there has been no trading, deposit, withdrawal or internal transfer in any of your accounts for 90 days, XM treats them as dormant and charges USD 10 a month, or the whole free balance if it is less; an account with no balance is not charged (Client Agreement, clause 62).

Leverage is selectable up to 400:1, the most the CMA allows. Our account showed 400:1 when we started on 26 October and 100:1 half an hour later, when a 0.01 lot EUR/USD position needed USD 11.22 of margin instead of USD 2.80. We did not capture a change of setting, and the Client Agreement lets XM change leverage at any time without notice (clause 32.2).

The XM app ran the whole cycle for us. Logging in needed a 6-digit code from an authenticator app, with an option to trust the device for 30 days, and set-up offered a 6-digit passcode and biometrics. We placed a EUR/USD sell of 0.01 lots with a take profit and a stop loss, and the app confirmed it at once; the trade history shows each position's open and close prices, the reason it closed and the server times.

The Markets tab groups instruments as Popular, Forex, Stocks CFDs and more, each with charts, an information panel and swap rates. The More menu holds Rewards (bonuses, Refer a Friend, the XM Traders Club and a marketplace), Tools (news, analysis, an economic calendar, Trading Central, corporate events, index dividends, bank holidays, forex calculators and a VPS), Education, Funding and support. From it we also opened a demo account, choosing MT5 or MT4 and Standard or Ultra Low, with a USD 10,000 balance. We saw no stability problem.

XM serves Kenya through TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited, a CMA-licensed company in Nairobi, under a Client Agreement governed by Kenyan law. M-Pesa works in shillings both ways with no XM fee, the deposit page also offered Airtel Mobile Money, and there is a Kenyan phone line and a Kenyan support email. The account itself is in US dollars, so shillings are converted each way, and we did not open the base currency dropdown to see whether a KES account is offered. Swap-free trading is available on Ultra Low accounts, and account settings also include an Islamic Account option.

The XM app's Education area has a video course (an "About this Video Series" introduction and 48 lessons, from an introduction to the markets to technical analysis), quick-start and platform tutorials for the app and desktop, interactive tutorials, and live education rooms: an English Beginner Room and an English Advanced Room, both scheduled 09:00 to 18:00 East Africa Time on 26 October 2026. Its Tools add Reuters news, XM analysis, Trading Central and an economic calendar. We looked through these but did not complete a course or join a live room. On xm.ke, XM's Learning Center says it runs free webinars seven days a week, from 77 instructors in 23 languages, but shows no schedule or language list without an account and does not mention Swahili; the site itself is in English only. Its research portal, open once you have an account, adds daily market analysis, the XM Podcast and XM TV.

Verdict

In our test, the CMA-licensed Kenyan company held our account, our M-Pesa deposit was credited in the minute we paid, and our withdrawal came back to M-Pesa in about ten minutes, both with no XM fee. Four findings weigh against it: EUR/USD costs about 2 pips on the Standard account, the bonus is credit you cannot cash out, the dollar account cost us about 1.6 percent on the round trip, and an idle account is charged USD 10 a month after 90 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is XM regulated in Kenya?
Yes. TPXMGLOBAL Kenya Limited holds Capital Markets Authority Licence Number 233 as a non-dealing online foreign exchange broker, and we confirmed it on the CMA licensee register. Its Client Agreement is governed by Kenyan law.
Can I deposit and withdraw with M-Pesa at XM?
Yes. We deposited KSh 2,300 by M-Pesa with no XM fee, credited as USD 17.57 in the minute we paid, and withdrew USD 17.19, which arrived as KSh 2,214 about ten minutes after we asked, also with no fee. The money moves through payment companies, ZAMUPAY LIMITED and PESASWAP EAST AFRICA LIMITED.
What is the minimum deposit at XM?
USD 5 on XM's Kenyan account cards, but KSh 2,100, about USD 16, by M-Pesa, the minimum on the deposit form on 23 October 2026.
What spread does XM charge on EUR/USD?
On the Standard account, XM published an average of 2.0 pips on 26 October 2026, and we saw 1.9 to 2.2 pips, with no commission. Ultra Low accounts quote from 0.8 pips and are excluded from the deposit bonus.
Is the XM deposit bonus real money?
No. It is trading credit: ours matched our deposit, could not be withdrawn, and was removed when we withdrew. The New Group Bonus terms limit it to a deposit within two weeks of registering, up to USD 100.
Does XM charge an inactivity fee?
Yes. After 90 days with no trading, deposits, withdrawals or transfers in any of your accounts, XM treats them as dormant and charges USD 10 a month, or the whole free balance if it is less (Client Agreement, clause 62).
Which platforms does XM offer?
Its own web terminal and app, and MetaTrader 4 and 5. We traded on the web terminal and in the app.
